SUMMARY:Special Voting Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:The Students’ Union has worked with the City of Kamloops to set up a special voting opportunity in advance of the October 17 Municipal election. This special voting opportunity is open to students\, staff and faculty at TRU. Voting will take place on October 9\, 2026 from 9:00am-11:30am in the TRUSU Lecture Hall.  \nWho Can Vote in a Civic Election\nYou can vote in a civic election as a resident elector in Kamloops if you: \n\nare a Canadian citizen* are 18 years of age or older on general voting day\nhave lived in British Columbia for at least six months\nare not disqualified by law from voting\n\nAll Kamloops residents who meet these requirements can vote. It does not matter if you rent or own your home.  \nMore details about voter eligibility can be found here  \nVoting Process\nYou do not need to register as an elector in advance to vote in a municipal election in Kamloops. To vote\, visit a voting location on an advance voting day or on general voting day between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Bring two pieces of identification: at least one must show your signature\, and at least one must show your address. (The combined BC driver’s licence and BC Services card will be considered as ONE piece of identification.) After a registration clerk records your name\, you can cast your ballot. Do not vote for more candidates than the number to be elected. You may vote for fewer candidates if you choose. For example\, while you can vote for up to eight Councillors\, you may choose to vote for only six. \nHere are the kinds of identification that are acceptable: \n\nBC driver’s licence*\nBC identification card (BCID)\nPhoto BC Services card*\nNon-photo BC Services card\nCar insurance papers\nSocial Insurance Number \nCitizenship Card issued by the Government of Canada\nProperty tax notice \nCredit card or debit card\nUtility bill\, such as cable services\, electricity\, gas\, telephone services\, or water\nIndian Status card (a document issued by the Government of Canada that certifies that the applicant is registered as an Indian under the federal Indian Act)\nCitizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation\nCitizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia\n\n*Please note: The combined BC driver’s licence and BC Services card will be considered as ONE piece of identification. \nMore details about the voting process can be found here
