Are you a graduate student? We want to hear about your experience with your supervisors! Join us to give feedback on proposed changes to requirements for faculty members to become Full Graduate Supervisors. (Undergrads with research experience are also welcome!)
To become a Full Graduate Supervisor, a faculty member needs to be tenured (or on the tenure track), have a terminal degree, be published, and be active in their discipline. Currently, there is no requirement for previous experience of supervising students. (See the current criteria here)
The Graduate Studies Committee is considering adding experience supervising students (as a co-supervisor, undergraduate supervisor, or thesis committee member) as well as mandatory training to the criteria for becoming a Full Supervisor. These changes are expected to lead to better supervisor/student relations and improved student success.
Your experience and feedback can help shape these changes! At its next meeting (December 3), the Graduate Studies Committee will use the feedback from you and other stakeholders to make recommendations to the Senate for approval.
