Living in Kamloops for my whole life has given me a deep understanding of what it means to be a racial minority. I have spent much of my life around racialized people so I have a firm grasp on the important issues that they face. Being the descendant of an immigrant has given me a understanding of structural oppression and inequality that can only be understood through experience. I know first hand the discrimination faced by racialized people within Canada, specifically within education.

I am a Bachelor of Health Science student with a dual credential in Respiratory Therapy. I have a passion for improving community health specifically for low-income families, immigrants, and women. I am working towards these career goals in hopes of joining or creating a volunteer group in which I can provide healthcare access to communities that lack fundamental health needs. In my current research project, I work closely with pregnant immigrant women that face injustice from the healthcare system. It has been an eye-opening experience understanding the anxiety, struggles, and uncertainties these women face. This initiative has given me a greater understanding of how to advocate for women’s equality.  I have had the privilege to work with many strong and inspiring women in my professional career. They have shown me how to overcome prejudices that come with being a woman and ways to empower one another through these encounters. I want to reflect the same empowerment in the TRU community.  I am applying to become the Women’s Representative to create a safe and supportive environment for women at TRU to flourish. Third Year

Weytk, Hey Folks! My name is Alex (she/her) but you can call me “Al Pal”. I am a psychology and marketing student running for Entertainment Committee Representative. I acknowledge that I reside on Indigenous land. I engage in several extracurriculars at TRU including my roles as a student athlete/teams manager for TRU WolfPack Cheerleading, Marketing and Communications assistant for TRU, Future Students Ambassador, co-op student, board member for the TRUSU psychology club, career ambassador, TRU social media ambassador, and previous equity committee member at large.  These roles and projects at TRU present me as the most eligible candidate for the position, as I have obtained the skills of hard work, diversity, dedication, and passion for the student experience. I value equity, attain openness to new experiences, and acquire a spirit for getting involved. My motto is “explore and evolve”. Entertainment has always been an integral part of life. It breathes oxygen into life when it seems bleak due to hectic schedules or unbearable responsibilities. As a part of the entertainment committee, I will unite students with their passions and connect students with one another. Events are part of the student experience here at TRU, and are means to make memories.

Fourth Year

Hi my name is Sydney Jodoin and I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts student, majoring in English. After graduation I plan on going to law school, after possibly getting a masters in Political Sciences. I am currently the President of the TRUSU Pre-Law Society and a member of the Student Caucus, where I serve on the Faculty of Student Development Committee, and the Reimagining Student Advising subcommittee. It is from this involvement that I became interested in a position as an Entertainment Representative, as I wanted to become more involved at the school and have lots of ideas for fun events to plan! For example, I would like to start an end-of-year tradition like the first-day BBQ. I would also like to propose monthly faculty movie nights- outdoors when it is warm enough, and in the gym otherwise. I think I would be a good fit for this position as I am creative, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic. I truly want to help students have a better experience at this school, and know being elected would allow me to. If elected, I will do my best to plan many fun events, and make this year super entertaining!
