On September 26, 2018 at 4:15pm the TRU Students’ Union presented student priorities to the BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services.

The presentation included a comprehensive report to recommend the creation of a provincial need-based grants program, to update block grant funding for TRU, and to ensure that international education across the province is planned and managed. These recommendations were developed by students in the spring and summer and included feedback from hundreds of students regarding these three areas.

“We were pleased to have the opportunity to present to the committee on important issues that students are facing and hope to see these issues addressed by the government in the 2019 budget,” said Cole Hickson, Vice President External. “We believe these recommendations will improve the experience of both domestic and international students at TRU as well as across our province.”

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services tours the province each fall to receive presentations from community organizations. The committee forms recommendations for the upcoming provincial budget based on these submissions.
