On June 12, 2019 the TRU Students’ Union will present the priorities of students at TRU to the provincial government’s Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services. The Union is recommending a number of improvements it believes will increase the accessibility and quality of post-secondary education in BC.
Student Union representatives will be proposing that the upcoming budget, re-evaluate TRU’s funding formula to increase TRU’s block grant funding, create a provincial need-based grants program, and create an international student strategy to ensure international education is managed effectively and responsibly.
“We’re very excited to present three recommendations to the committee on behalf of our members and hope to see these issues addressed in the upcoming budget,” said Kole Lawrence, Vice President External. “We believe these recommendations will help improve the educational experience for thousands of students here at TRU and across BC.”
The BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services tours the province every year to hear and receive presentations from community organizations in order to develop recommendations to advise the government in developing the upcoming provincial budget.
