The TRU Students’ Union is excited to announce that we have partnered with the City of Kamloops to host a Municipal Election Advanced Polling Station on the TRU campus this fall. On Wednesday October 17 from 11:00am-3:00pm students, faculty, and staff will be able to cast their ballot in the City of Kamloops Municipal Election in the TRU Students’ Union building.
“Local government plays a significant role in the lives of students, faculty, and staff so it is important that the TRU community has the opportunity to participate in the election,” said Cole Hickson, Vice President External. “Essentially, we want to make sure that voting is as accessible as possible for students, faculty, and staff.”
To be eligible to vote in the 2018 Kamloops municipal election, you must be a Canadian citizen, be 18 or older on voting day, have lived in BC for at least six months, and have lived in Kamloops for at least 30 days. You must also present appropriate ID at the time of voting.
The TRU Students’ Union has hosted campus polls for elections at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017, helping hundreds of students, faculty, and staff to vote. “Our goal is to secure an on campus polling station for every election at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels,” continued Hickson.
