Yesterday, the TRUSU Equity Committee hosted a fun, successful, film screening of The Muslims Are Coming! to raise awareness about Islamophobia. We were pleased to host an engaged crowd of students, faculty, staff, and community members in IB who learned through laughing that Muslims are not the boogeymen to be afraid, but are regular people with the same values, hopes, and dreams as other non-Muslim communities.

The Committee also distributed a takeaway material that answers some frequently asked questions about Islamophobia, describes how folks can get involved and take action to challenge Islamophobia, and connects folks with campus and community Islamic organizations for more information and resources. If you couldn’t make it out to the event here is a material with some information about how you can join in the discussion and work with us to combat harmful stereotypes.
