Students from faculties all across the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) campus were asked to decorate ornaments for Holiday Fest this winter with the Union.

Between Oct29 and Nov. 23, 2021, nearly 50 campus groups picked-up holiday ornaments from the Thompson Rivers University Students’ Union (TRUSU) Members’ Service Desk to respectively decorate on behalf of small groups of four, a faculty or department, Student Caucus — and even some clubs got involved.

On Friday, Nov. 26, the decorated ornaments and lights were installed in front of the Union as well as the Arts and Education buildings.

“It’s wonderful to see people from all walks of life getting involved with campus culture,” said Filza Raza, Vice-President Internal, TRUSU Entertainment Committee. “The Union wants to share memories and help our membership feel uplifted as we enter the third year of the global COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that your holidays are happy and cheerful in whichever way you choose to celebrate.”

Holiday Fest began in 2019 when the Union invited students to a small winter carnival in Campus Commons. During the Winter of 2020, the event was cancelled as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic. This winter, the Union amended the activities to promote social distancing, encouraging safety among our peers, while aiming to boost the mood on campus with festive collaborative activities for small groups to partake in.

Don’t hesitate to stop by Common Grounds, the student-run coffee shop, for an eggnog latte or a hot chocolate and take in the Entertainment Committee’s festive installation on the lit-up tree this winter. Happy holidays, and best of luck on your exams.
