As you may already be aware, in late March in response to the growing Covid-19 pandemic the City of Kamloops made all public transit fare-free for riders. Allowing all students and other members of the community to ride without paying. Further, in April BC Transit announced that all Upass programs (including the one here in Kamloops) would be cancelled for the summer semester (May 01, 2020 – August 31, 2020). This meant that all TRU students or any other community members could ride the transit system for free in March, April, and May but that students and others would need to pay full fares when regular transit service resumed. This would cost students who needed the bus pass $150.00 as opposed to the Upass fee of $56.75 for the months of June, July, and August.

We are excited to announce that we have worked with BC Transit and the City of Kamloops to ensure students who are located in Kamloops and would like to access a UPASS for the summer semester will have the ability to opt-in if they choose. The UPASS fee of $56.75 and the summer TRUSU membership fee of $75.00 (only assessed if you aren’t taking summer courses) can be paid at the Members’ Services Desk and your student card can be activated there as well.

The Members’ Services Desk will reopen on June 1, 2020, and will be open from 10AM-2PM Monday to Friday. The remainder of the Students’ Union building including study areas and the Common Grounds Coffee Shop will remain closed until further notice. Social distancing procedures will be in place and students are asked to follow the direction posted on the signage upon arrival.
