The TRU Students’ Union is excited to announce new changes to the TRUSU Extended Health and Dental Plan for the 2018/2019 year. In January 2018, at the TRUSU Annual General Meeting, students voiced their concerns about the birth control options and counselling services available on the TRUSU Extended Health and Dental Plan. In May 2018, the Students’ Union addressed both of these issues.

Starting in Fall 2018, the TRUSU Health and Dental Plan will cover more robust contraceptive options including Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) and non-generic brand oral contraceptives. Mental health services will also be enhanced to include a broader array of health care professionals including social workers and counsellors.

“We were happy to be able to make both of the changes that we heard from our members for the upcoming year” said Samantha Baker, TRU Vice President Services.

In addition to these updates, the Students’ Union will be undertaking a full scale review of coverage over the next year including a survey of plan members, campus stakeholders and local healthcare providers to develop a long term strategy for continual improvement of the Health and Dental Plan.

“Our goal is to ensure that the TRUSU Extended Health and Dental Plan successfully meets the needs of students while they are studying at TRU and continues to evolve as those needs change over time.” said Baker.
