Over the summer the TRUSU Services Committee has been working hard to improve the health and dental plan to keep you healthy during the 2019/20 academic year.
“We try to do our best to improve the coverage we offer each year. We know that people use this coverage to support themselves and their families while they study and we take that very seriously” said Vice President Services Sajeesh Soman.
Effective this fall (September 2019) coverage changes to the TRUSU Health and Dental Plan will include improvements to existing coverage for fillings, wisdom teeth extractions, root canals, and eye exams. As well as the addition of accidental death and dismemberment coverage to the plan.
Starting in September plan members will see the copay for wisdom teeth extractions reduced from 30% to 20% and the copay on root canals reduced from 50% to 30% making necessary dental surgeries cheaper for members. Plan members will also see coverage changes that will ensure members will have their choice of amalgram or white fillings with no associated premium or cost. And lastly, plan members will see coverage for eye exams increase from $60 to $100 ensuring members who might need glasses or contacts can get the necessary testing. In addition, the plan will add new accidental death and dismemberment coverage to support plan members and their families in the event of an accident.
“It certainly isn’t the most glamorous work we do but it’s very important work. Our health and dental plan has almost 6000 members who made over $835,000 in claims last year.” said Soman. “ This plan supports the health and wellness of many students and their families and is a very important service for us. We do our best to make sure the plan is there for our members when they need it.”
