UPASS Logo

The TRUSU UPASS is an unlimited transit pass for the City of Kamloops provided to every TRU Student each semester. The UPASS allows you to get to and from classes, work, school, and more at a low cost to both your bank account and the environment. It also provides you with a 50 per cent discount to a monthly membership to the Tournament Capital Centre and free access to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.

Getting your UPASS

Getting your UPASS is easy. Every member of the Students’ Union is already automatically assessed the UPASS fee when they register in a course. Ten days before the start of each semester you will receive an email from the Students’ Union that provides you with a link to download the Umo App and the instructions on how to set up your UPASS for the semester.

How to Download UMO and Set up Your Account

  1. Search for “UMO Mobility App” in your App Store and download or click here (App Store or Google Play)
  2. Open the app and tap “Get Started” (if you already have an UMO account skip to How to Redeem Your UPASS Benefit Code)
  3. Choose if you would like to sign in with your phone number or email address. Enter your information and go through the verification process.
  4. Tap continue and make your location selection (the app will request permission to access location to assist with trip planning – this is not required but recommended for the app’s full functionality)
  5. Select Allow if you would like to get live updates and notifications for real-time transit alerts and service updates. This feature is optional.
  6. Select Set Up Now to set up your account.
  7. Select create new account. Chose either email or phone number and go through the verification process.

How to Redeem Your UPASS Benefit Code

  1. Open the menu ☰ at the top of the UMO App.
  2. Select Redeem Benefit.
  3. Select Change Agency to choose Kamloops Transit.
  4. Enter the unique benefit code provided by TRUSU for the semester (check your personal email on file with TRU).
  5. Success! Your UPASS is now loaded into your account and your are ready to take Kamloops Transit!

How to Use your UPASS to Travel

  1. Open your UMO app and select Validation Code to display your dynamic QR code.
  2. Present your QR code to the bus drive (UMO digital validator).
  3. A checkmark and single beep means that your fare has been accepted.
FAQs

I don’t have a benefit code

You must be registered (not waitlisted) in at least one on-campus course in Kamloops to get your benefit code. Registered students will begin receiving emails to their myTRU accounts with a benefit codes ten (10) days before the semester starts. If you are not registered for any classes at this time, then you will receive your benefit code within two (2) business days of your registration. Contact the Basic Needs Services Coordinator if you have any questions about your UPASS Benefit Code

Can I Opt-in to the UPASS?

There are no opt ins for the UPASS program. If you are not registered in a course for the semester then you can purchase a regular monthly bus pass from any City of Kamloops vendor.

Opting Out of the UPASS

Some students are eligible to opt-out of the UPASS. If you are eligible and would like to opt-out of the UPASS you must complete an opt-out form available online during the opt-out window for the upcoming semester. After confirming your opt-out eligibility, the Students’ Union will credit your myTRU account for the costs of the UPASS for that semester. You will need to provide your information as well as a copy of your course registration data form for the semester you are opting-out of. Can’t find your course registration data form? Who Qualifies for an Opt-Out?

There are four categories under which you can qualify for a UPASS opt-out:

  1. You are enrolled in a program that is seven (7) weeks long or less;
  2. You are enrolled in an off-campus practicum or co-op program that is seven (7) weeks or longer;
  3. Your primary residence for the period of study is outside of the Kamloops Transit Area Boundaries;
  4. You have a disability services bus pass issued by the province.
