The ILSA is dedicated to advancing the understanding, respect and implementation of Indigenous laws and legal traditions. ILSA provides resources and support for students and legal professionals, promoting their success in the field of law. ILSA is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students at TRU law. ISLA’s mission is to support and empower Indigenous and non-Indigenous students through intercultural learning and collaboration. ISLA aims to: 1) Promote Inclusivity by creating supporting and welcoming space for all law students, respecting diverse experiences; 2) Facilitate Intercultural learning by developing intercultural understanding by organizing events, workshops and discussions that highlight Indigenous legal traditions and contemporary issues;3)Liaison with Cultural resources acting as a bridge between students, the greater TRU community and Tk’emplups and Secwempemc, elders and scholars; 4)Advocate for Equity by promoting supporting practices that advance the recognition of legal systems; 5) Engage with Law Faculty to promote diversity, equity and Indigenous perspectives within the LAW. Through this work, ISLA strives to create a law school environment that values and integrates Indigenous perspectives and fostering mutual understanding among students.
