The Women in Law Society aims to empower women in the legal field. Law is one of the most fundamental components of our society, making gender parity and representation exceptionally meaningful. According to the Justice Education Society of BC, women constitute 50% of law school graduates, but only 37% of lawyers in BC are women. This high attrition rate reflects a need for more resources to support women in law. The TRU Women in Law Society aspires to counter this problem and offer support by building community. We plan to offer various events, from mentorship opportunities and panels to health and wellness initiatives. The TRU Women in Law Society offers a safe space to ask questions, feel supported, and make friends with members at the TRU law school, across BC law schools, and throughout the industry.
