On June 19, 2020 the TRU Students’ Union will be presenting student priorities for the 2021 provincial budget to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services. The Students’ Union will be making three recommendations targeted at helping students respond and recover from the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 and improve the post-secondary system in BC.

The Students’ Union will be recommending that the BC Access Grant be expanded for the next two years in response to COVID-19, that BC launch a comprehensive student jobs program to support student employment, and that a province-wide international student strategy is created to ensure that international education is managed effectively and responsibly.

“We’re looking forward to presenting to BC MLA’s on the important issues that students are facing in this difficult time,” said Kole Lawrence, Vice President External. “We believe that our three recommendations will help students, as well as our provincial economy, recover quickly.”

The BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services receives presentations from across the province every year to hear from community organizations in order to develop recommendations to advise the government in developing the upcoming provincial budget.
