To assist in the creation of a new Food Service Master Plan, the Union recently participated in a consultation to provide the student perspective on food services at TRU. On October 23, Student Caucus members attended a session to assess the current food services and identify areas for improvement alongside an external consultation group, FsStrategy, which will be recommending changes for TRU to begin in 2025.
Food services on campus play an essential role in shaping the student experience. The quality and accessibility of food services have a direct impact on student well-being and academic success. Student Caucus members are responsible for sharing their perspectives on behalf of their peers, and were asked to bring their voices to assist in identifying student concerns.
During the consultation, a variety of concerns about dietary preferences/needs, the location of food services, price, and variety of food outlets were discussed. Ideas shared included the exploration of an open cafeteria-style space with multiple food outlets in one location, having specific food-service seated areas at the current outlets, and the requirement for improvements to the current wait times in high-use areas.
Do you have your own ideas about the future of our campus food services? Share your opinion on the affordability, variety, accessibility, cultural and dietary inclusivity, and sustainability of food services provided on campus, through this link to a campus-wide survey.
