You may have heard already that BC Transit is moving to a new electronic transit fare system in Kamloops called Umo (pronounced “you-mo”). Umo provides contactless payment methods and new fare products. This means that the TRUSU UPASS will also be migrating from a physical card to a mobile app.

When is this happening?

Starting Summer 2024 (May 01 – August 31), the TRUSU UPASS will no longer be encoded on your student ID; instead, your UPASS will be available through BC Transit’s Umo App.

What’s next for you?

If you are not registering for classes in the summer semester, there is no action required on your part right now. Please see the paragraphs below for details on getting your Umo access code for the summer and fall semester.

Summer Semester 2024

If you are registering for the summer semester (May 01 – August 31), you will receive an email from the Students’ Union ten (10) calendar days before the semester begins (starting April 26, 2024). This email will contain your unique Umo code for the semester as well as detailed instructions on how to download and use the Umo app to ride the bus.

Fall Semester 2024

For those students not attending classes in the summer, but who plan to register for classes in the fall semester 2024; you will receive an email from the Students’ Union ten (10) calendar days before the start of the fall semester (starting August 24, 2024). This email will contain your unique Umo code for the semester as well as detailed instructions on how to download and use the Umo app to ride the bus.
