Student Caucus Training

On Wednesday, October 14th, 55 newly appointed members of the Student Caucus gathered together for the first time this term to learn more about what it means to participate on a university committee.

Student Caucus members serve to amplify student voices across TRU’s governance, representing their peers throughout a variety of academic, campus, and faculty-based decisions. To assist them in being effective participants alongside faculty, staff, and administrators, Student Caucus members attend monthly gatherings in which they are provided skill-building training and information relevant to their roles representing their peers.

During the training, Student Caucus members were provided information about the roles of participants and common agenda items relevant to their roles across TRU’s decision-making. Following the presentation, members took the time to practice their skills in giving reports, engaging in discussions, and making motions.

“It was very helpful to practice the meeting process and learn more about reporting, participating in discussions, and making motions,” said Patricia Flores a student representative on the Food Service Advisory Committee. “I’m confident these skills will be useful in my role moving forward.”
