Board of Directors

The board of directors of the TRU Students’ Union is made up of twenty representatives selected in an election each year. These representatives each serve a one-year term from May 1st to April 30th. There are five executive members, six constituency representatives, and eight committee representatives. These representatives are responsible for overseeing the Students’ Union and its operations. They make decisions on behalf of the entire membership and manage the organisation in between annual general meetings.

Campaigns Committee Executive

The Campaigns Committee Executive’s primary responsibility is facilitating and reporting on the work of the Campaigns Committee. The Campaigns Committee Executive works with the Campaigns Coordinator to provide leadership for a team of students to plan weekly committee meetings, respond to media requests, and engage in extensive campus outreach. The Campaigns Committee is responsible for planning and implementing the Intergenerational Housing, Industry Connect, Deals Discount, Students Vote, Breaking Bread, Campus Legal Clinics, and Volunteer programs of the Student Union. They also serve as the provincial executive representative to the BC Federation of Students

The Campaigns Committee Representative’s primary responsibility is to assist the Campaigns Committee with the implementation of its work. This includes attending weekly meetings, contributing to planning, and participating in extensive campus outreach on issues the committee is addressing. The Campaigns Committee is responsible for planning and implementing the Intergenerational Housing, Industry Connect, Deals Discount, Students Vote, Breaking Bread, Campus Legal Clinics, and Volunteer programs of the Student Union.

Entertainment Committee Executive

The Entertainment Committee Executive’s primary responsibility is facilitating and reporting on the work of the Entertainment Committee. The Entertainment Committee Executive works with the Entertainment Coordinator to provide leadership for a team of students to plan weekly committee meetings, respond to media requests, and engage in extensive campus outreach throughout the fall and winter semesters. The Entertainment Committee is responsible for planning and implementing all of the entertainment that the Students’ Union offers. This includes the Back to School BBQ, Welcome Breakfast, Outdoor Movie Night, Winterfest Carnival, Common Voices Lecture Series, Adventure Movie Nights, Games Nights, and the Last Class Bash

The Entertainment Committee Representative’s primary responsibility is to assist the Entertainment Committee with the implementation of its work. This includes attending weekly meetings, contributing to planning, and participating in extensive campus outreach on issues the committee is addressing. The Entertainment Committee is responsible for planning and implementing all of the entertainment that the Students’ Union offers. This includes the Back to School BBQ, Welcome Breakfast, Outdoor Movie Night, Winterfest Carnival, Common Voices Lecture Series, Adventure Movie Nights, Games Nights, and the Last Class Bash.

The Equity Committee Executive works with the Equity Coordinator to provide leadership for a team of students to plan weekly committee meetings, respond to media requests, and engage in extensive campus outreach throughout the fall and winter semesters. The Equity Committee is responsible for planning and implementing the Amnesty Urgent Actions, EDI Lecture Series, Campus Clothing Exchange, Equity Trainings & Solidarity Work, Pride Parade, ReconciliACTION, and Women of TRU programs of the Student Union.

Accessibility Representative

The Accessibility Representative ensures that the valuable perspective and interests of persons with accessibility issues are represented in the Board of Directors. They are a member of the Equity Committee and are responsible for planning and implementing the Amnesty Urgent Actions, EDI Lecture Series, Campus Clothing Exchange, Equity Trainings & Solidarity Work, Pride Parade, ReconciliACTION, and Women of TRU programs of the Student Union.

The Indigenous Representative ensures that the valuable perspective and interests of the Aboriginal, First Nations, and Métis constituency are represented in the Board of Directors. They are a member of the Equity Committee and are responsible for planning and implementing the Amnesty Urgent Actions, EDI Lecture Series, Campus Clothing Exchange, Equity Trainings & Solidarity Work, Pride Parade, ReconciliACTION, and Women of TRU programs of the Student Union.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, and Queer (LGBTQ) Students’ Representative ensures that the valuable perspectives and interests of the LGBTQ community are represented in the Board of Directors. They are a member of the Equity Committee and are responsible for planning and implementing the Amnesty Urgent Actions, EDI Lecture Series, Campus Clothing Exchange, Equity Trainings & Solidarity Work, Pride Parade, ReconciliACTION, and Women of TRU programs of the Student Union.

The Racialized Persons Representative ensures that the valuable perspectives and interests of racialized persons are represented in the Board of Directors. They are a member of the Equity Committee and are responsible for planning and implementing the Amnesty Urgent Actions, EDI Lecture Series, Campus Clothing Exchange, Equity Trainings & Solidarity Work, Pride Parade, ReconciliACTION, and Women of TRU programs of the Student Union.

The Services Committee Executive’s primary responsibility is facilitating and reporting on the work of the Services Committee. The Services Committee Executive works with the Services Coordinator to provide leadership for a team of students to plan weekly committee meetings, respond to media requests, and engage in extensive campus outreach throughout the fall and winter semesters. The Services Committee is responsible for planning and implementing the Chefs Packages, Community Meals, Clubs, Upass, Grants, Health and Dental, Wellness Series, Students Union Building, and Common Grounds Coffeeshop services of the Student Union.

The Graduate Students’ Representative ensures that the valuable perspective and interests of graduate students are represented in the Board of Directors. This includes attending weekly meetings, contributing to planning, and participating in extensive campus outreach on issues the committee is addressing. The University Affairs Committee is responsible for ensuring the recruitment, resourcing, support, and expansion of institutional student representative roles through the Student Caucus program of the Student Union.
