Did you struggle with settling into life in Kamloops or at Thompson Rivers University? Did you struggle with cultural differences in while studying, working, or socializing? Have language barriers, unfamiliar traditions, or different academic systems that complicated your journey? Did you feel supported in adjusting to cultural changes, or are there gaps in the resources available to you? If you have any experiences or ideas about how to support students in adjusting to life in a new culture, then we would like to hear from you!
Join us for an intimate and thought-provoking conversation on “Cultural Adaptation.” This discussion will explore cultural adaptation from the perspective of those who come to Kamloops to study and those who have welcomed new folks to Kamloops to study. Together, we’ll share experiences.
This Breaking Bread session, hosted by the TRUSU Campaigns Committee and supported by local community advocates, invites TRU students, staff, and faculty to join the conversation. The event will take place at TRU on April 16,2025 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
As part of the TRU Students’ Union’s Breaking Bread Series, this session provides a chance to unplug, connect over a free lunch, and dive into one of the most pressing topics of our time. If this resonates with you, sign up below! Spaces are limited, and registration is first come, first serve.
