The TRU Oral Advocacy Club cordially invites you to attend the Dean’s Cup By Trial Lawyers Association of B.C. on February 1st and 2nd from 6pm to 8pm in OM3732! The topic of the moot is criminal law and involves stolen funds, a murder, and police interrogation. For those of you who aren’t familiar with mooting, a moot is the oral presentation of a legal issue or problem against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have whilst at university to appearing in court. Students currently enrolled in the law program at TRU are participating in the moot, and will be presenting their oral arguments before a panel of local judges. I encourage you to attend the moot as spectators, and see what your fellow TRU classmates bring to the table. Each moot will be followed by a social mixer, and other students and members of the faculty and legal community will be in attendance. The students, who range from first to third years, will be presenting their submissions in pairs before the TRU Supreme Court, an appellate-style court. They will argue before a three-judge panel, consisting of members of the Kamloops and Vancouver bar and judiciary. We hope to see you there!
