The TRUSU Equity Committee is excited to host an Equity Training on Intercultural Competency in Workplace Environments, that is free for anyone who wants to learn more about navigating workplace diversity and cultural sensitivity. This vital training will be facilitated by experts from the Kamloops Immigrant Services, who offer specialized knowledge when it comes to Intercultural understanding in professional settings. Their work has been instrumental in helping organizations all over Kamloops to foster supportive environments for people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
What this Training is About:
In this session, participants will explore the fundamentals of Intercultural Competency, focusing on:
- Workplace Culture & Sensitivity
An exploration of how workplace culture varies across countries and the importance of understanding Canadian workplace norms, including professionalism, inclusivity, and communication styles. - Potential Challenges & Barriers
Understanding common challenges such as language barriers, differences in work expectations, unconscious bias, and navigating workplace relationships. - Effective Communication Strategies
Key strategies for active listening, assertive communication, and managing workplace conversations respectfully, including cultural considerations in feedback delivery. - Conflict Resolution & Setting Boundaries
Techniques for handling workplace conflicts professionally, setting boundaries with colleagues and supervisors, and navigating difficult conversations in a culturally sensitive way.
