On June 10, 2025 the TRU Students’ Union presented its recommendations for the 2026 British Columbia Budget to the BC Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services. This Standing Committee tours the province each year receiving presentations from community organizations. The committee then forms recommendations for the upcoming provincial budget based on these submissions.

The Students’ Union requested that the Government of British Columbia follow through with its 2022 commitment and complete the BC Post Secondary Education Funding Review and that the government expand the BC Access Grant program. To see the full transcript of Yamak’s remarks, click here.

“Our recommendations are designed to focus on helping students across the province access improved financial aid, as well as improving students’ overall experience here at TRU by addressing our broken funding model,” said Crystal Yamak, Campaigns Committee Executive Member. “To strengthen the post-secondary system we need to support both students and institutions.”
