On Wednesday, November 13th, sixteen members of the Student Caucus met with the TRU Policy Specialist Noah Arney to provide input on several academic policies that will impact how transcripts and grading, academic progress, transfer credits, and prior learning assessment recognition (PLAR).

Reviewing these policies provided Student Caucus members with the opportunity to share their concerns for consideration prior to a decision on the adoption of these changes made at the TRU Senate. These policies have a big impact on the student academic experience here at TRU, and many students have regularly expressed concerns regarding how grading systems apply to their chosen field of study, problems enrolling in and completing their courses to ensure they graduate on time, and difficulty in transferring credits from other institutions.

Attendees also identified several other potential improvements, including increasing clarity around how students can audit a course, improving the definitions of several grade codes, changing how credit costs are transferred in PLAR, and updating the requirements for repeating courses.

“The students who attended this consultation provided a lot of great feedback on several areas that I believe are a priority for the student experience here at TRU,” said Jannat Bhullar, University Affairs Executive, “I look forward to seeing the changes reflected in these policies.”
